Protection Program Manager

Reporting directly to the Director of Quality Assurance (DOQ), The Protection Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery of child protection services within the agency. This role involves managing and supervising child protection workers, ensuring compliance with provincial legislation, and working with community partners to safeguard children and families in Manitoba. The Protection Program Manager plays a key role in ensuring that children are safe from harm and that families receive the appropriate support services to promote their well-being.  This position can be based out of any of our three office locations.

Key Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited To:

  • Lead and supervise a team of child protection workers, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.

  • Conduct regular case reviews and provide feedback to staff to ensure the highest standards of service delivery and case management.

  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance, ensuring alignment with program objectives and agency policies.

  • Oversee the implementation of child protection protocols, policies, and practices to ensure timely and effective responses to child abuse and neglect.

  • Review and approve protection plans, assessments, and case decisions.

  • Ensure that investigations are conducted in compliance with the Child and Family Services Act and related legislation.

  • Act as a liaison with government agencies and organizations to advocate for and ensure coordinated service delivery to families.

  • Work closely with other program managers to address systemic issues affecting child protection services.

  • Other Protection Program Manager duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Child and Family Services, or a related field, or a combination of education and extensive experience in child welfare.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in child welfare, preferably within a First Nations or Indigenous context.

  • Proven leadership experience, including staff supervision and program management.

  • Experience working with First Nations communities and a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and child-rearing practices.

  • Strong knowledge of provincial and federal child welfare legislation.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage crises.

  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle, with willingness to travel within Manitoba.

  • Ability to pass Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Prior Contact Check.

  • The Prrotection Program Manager must be deeply committed to preserving the cultural identity, language, and traditions of First Nation children and families. 

  • Sensitivity to the unique historical and intergenerational trauma experienced by Indigenous peoples is essential

  • Along with knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
